Football Australia is pleased to announce that Alex King will officiate this Saturday’s 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League Men Grand Final between Central Coast Mariners FC and Melbourne Victory FC at Industree Group Stadium in Gosford.
Saturday’s Grand Final will be King’s first appointment as referee for an A-League Men’s Grand Final, having previously been fourth official in the 2019-20 Grand Final between Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC.
In further exciting news for King, the Football Queensland product has been acknowledged for his outstanding season, being named the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League Men Referee of the Year. King previously won the award following the 2021-22 season and adds to what has been a wonderful career for King who has featured in the A-Leagues since 2014.
Supporting King will be Assistant Referees Kearney Robinson (Football NSW) and Brad Wright (Football NSW), along with Fourth Official Adam Kersey (Football QLD) and Reserve Assistant Referee Hugh Fenton-White (Football NSW).
Robinson will make his second appearance as a Grand Final Assistant Referee, also being on the deciding match in 2020, in addition to the last three Grand Finals as Assistant VAR. Wright, who was the Reserve Assistant Referee for last year’s Grand Final, will make his debut as an Assistant Referee this year. Kersey has been appointed as Fourth Official for the second consecutive year, while Fenton-White will see his first involvement in a Grand Final, serving as the Reserve Assistant Referee.
The team of on field match officials will be supported by Video Match Officials Shaun Evans (Football VIC), Kris Griffiths-Jones (Football NSW) and Richard Naumovski (Capital Football), as well as Referee Coaches Craig Zetter (Football SA) and Paul Cetrangolo (Football SA).
Football Australia Head of Referees Nathan Magill said all the officials have been selected following outstanding domestic seasons.
“The selection of Saturday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s Grand Final officiating team is acknowledgment of their consistent performances throughout this season, particularly for Alex, who has had an exceptional twelve months.
“King has been an integral part of the A-League match officiating panel for a decade and has continuously shown his ability to perform in the important matches in Isuzu UTE A-League Men A-League. It is only appropriate that Alex has been named the Isuzu UTE A-League Men Referee of the Year for a second time, highlighting his skill and professionalism.
“Football Australia along with the Referees Committee would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the entire A-Leagues match officials panel for their commitment and professionalism throughout the 2023-24 season and wish those appointed for Saturday’s Grand Final all the best of luck with the occasion,” Magill concluded.
