Donald Campbell was born in Glasgow in 1939, emigrating to Australia in 1964.
He played for Scotland U-15's, even scoring a winning goal against England at Wembley in 1951.
A highly respected referee, Donald Campbell’s first international was Australia versus Bulgaria in 1973.
He issued the first ever red card in Australia in 1974, sending off Uruguayan defender Luis Garisto for the infamous 'chop' on Socceroo Ray Baartz that tragically ended his career.
From 1985-86 he handled back-to-back NSL grand finals.
Campbell was also awarded Referee of the Year in 1985, 1986 and 1987.
He also holds a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to football.
