George Smith, born in Coledale in the early 1900's, played as a forward in his football career that spanned from 1926-1943.
He is cap #57 for the Socceroos, making his debut in 1933 and playing six 'A' internationals, but scoring 16 goals.
He is widely regarded as one of Australia's Men's National Team's best ever strikers, and leads the all-time goalscoring list for all internationals (A and B) with 66 goals in just 26 games.
His record of 16 'A' international goals stood until 1973, when it was broken by Attila Abonyi.
Smith played for a number of clubs in Sydney & Wollongong, before retiring around the age of 36 or 37 in 1943.
Smith was an inaugural inductee into the Football Australia Hall of Fame in 1999.
