Sergio Melta was born in 1954 in Glenelg, South Australia.
He contributed to the game as a player and coach and is also a player life member of Adelaide City SC
Melta played for Adelaide City in its inaugural year in the NSL 1977 and continued playing until after the 1994/95 season, holding the club record for the most number of games (445), an NSL record at the time, and scored 64 goals.
He was Australian Player of the Year in 1984 and represented South Australia between 1980 and 1990.
Since retiring as a player, Melta took up coaching in his local state.
