A prominent businessman, Sir William Walkley was elected second President of the Australian Soccer Federation in 1963.
He held the position until 1970, also serving as the President of the Oceania Football Confederation at this time.
He founded the company 'Ampol', which sponsored various football knockout competitions around Australia.
Walkley also founded the Walkley Awards for excellence in Australian journalism, which are still very prominent to this day.
He was an outstanding football administrator and widely respected in the football community.
